The emerging workforce refers to workers who are in their first or second “real” jobs and may be comprised of recent graduates as well as student-interns. While these young workers bring many benefits to the workplace, employers need to prepare the everyday issues that will inevitably arise. And when interacting with them, supervisors, mentors and colleagues must keep in mind what can be reasonably expected from each individual worker, including: - their level of maturity and development (i.e., what is typical of most 18- to 20-year-olds) - their generation (i.e, what is typical of most Gen Z-ers) - their daily stability/instability (i.e, what is typical of most individuals from under-resourced backgrounds) - their level of work experience (i.e., what is typical of most entry-level employees) - their life situation (i.e., what is typical of most college students juggling school, work, and home responsibilities)
