I was at Fox and the Snow on Sunday. It was a cold and dreary late-January day. I wondered what impact that had on business. On the one hand, it's Sunday. On the other, it's cold and dreary. Does that draw people in or keep people away. So I asked.
The young hipster behind the counter said, "Oh, it's been steady." After a moment, he continued, "But working here isn't really like work at all. It's coming to a place where you get to hang out with your friends and drink, like, 5 cups of coffee!"
Isn't that what we all aspire to? Being in a place we love with people we enjoy doing work that invigorates us?
As a manager, it is your responsibility to both build that reality and ensure that reality for all the people who work for you.
