Have we made money today?

The founder of Company A comes into the office every so often. He sits in the boardroom, surrounded by his senior leaders, and pounds his fists on the table. “Have we made money today?” His voice booms throughout the room.

Contrast that with the COO of Company B, who, echoing the language of its founder, says, “Growth is good because growth means impact. The more we grow, the greater the impact we can have on the farmers with whom we work. The more money we make the more impact we can have on the communities where we live. The more financial strength our company has, the better we can support our employees.”

Both companies are about making money.
